Last Tuesday, April 21st, The Dome once again hosted a band set on proving they belong in the next tier: Balancing Act. Opening duties fell to Maiden Races, followed by the incredible Matt Felix. Backed by a full band, Felix delivered a performance built on clean arrangements and stage confidence. I particularly enjoyed the live rendition of “Wounded Little Soul”, while the newly released “The Carnival” hinted at a broader sonic palette, leaving the impression of an artist steadily refining his musical identity.

Balancing Act stepped on stage with momentum behind them and, crucially, a set that proved they know exactly how to maintain it. The band opened with “Sunshine”, the first track of their new album, “Who’ve You Come As?, Part 2”, and immediately established their core strengths: hypnotic melodies, rhythmic precision, and a frontman who understands how to hold a crowd without overplaying it. Kai Jon Roberts looked completely at home on stage, moving around the space with the kind of charisma that you just can’t fake. The band allowed the music to dictate the rhythm of their show, making it a more textured and immersive experience. Slower, atmospheric tracks carried even more weight live than on record, while the more upbeat songs injected euphoria just at the right moments. Roberts’ descent into the crowd during his mid-set performance of “Laylow” broke the invisible barrier between stage and floor without feeling excessive, reinforcing the sense of connection between the band and their fans. The final stretch pushed things further. The audience started dancing in sync following Roberts’ two-step “choreography”, then Matt Felix and Maiden Races’ frontman Andy Goodwin returned on stage for a confetti-filled performance of “There’s A Few Of Us Still Here”. The set closed on the best note possible with one of my favourite Balancing Acts songs, “All Yours”.

Technically, all the bands were incredibly sharp. Clearly, these artists are not just capable of writing strong material; they also understand how to shape a live set with intent. Needless to say, my expectations were exceeded, and I can’t wait to see Balancing Act on stage again… an even bigger stage, I hope.
