Morgan Nagler Balances Melancholy and Hope in “Hurt”
Words by Abril Valdez
“You don’t know love if you don’t know hurt.” This striking line sits at the emotional core of “Hurt,” the new single byMorgan Nagler. The track was the final preview of her debut album, “I’ve Got Nothing to Lose, and I’m Losing It”, released on March 13, 2026
Based in Los Angeles, Morgan Nagler has spent much of her career as a songwriter, bringing a poetic sensibility to melody and lyrics while collaborating with artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Margo Price, Kim Deal and HAIM. After years of working behind the scenes, she realised she still had deeply personal stories of her own to tell, which ultimately led to the creation of this debut project.
One of the most memorable moments arrives when Nagler lifts her voice on the word “burn,” delivering the line in a higher register that intensifies its emotional weight. The emphasis adds a deeply sentimental touch, highlighting the central idea that love and pain are often closely connected.
Rather than claiming that love always leads to suffering, the song feels more like a reflection on the risks that come with caring about someone. Relationships can bring conflict, heartbreak, or misunderstandings, and those experiences inevitably leave a mark.
At the same time, “Hurt” also hints at a broader perspective on life itself — learning from what we go through and making the most of the time we have. In that sense, the track feels less like a statement about heartbreak and more like a quiet meditation on love, vulnerability, and the importance of truly living.
Nagler will also celebrate the release with a launch show in Los Angeles and upcoming tour dates this spring, supporting King Tuff
