Liang Lawrence played her biggest headline show to date at EartH Hackney, a large theatre with Art Deco features. Despite the grand scale of the venue, Lawrence owned the stage from the moment she stepped on, commanding the room with confidence and charisma. She kicked off the night with fan favourites like ‘Kiss My Apocalypse’ and ‘Stuck,’ before blending in tracks from her latest EP, It’s a Funny Thing, released just weeks prior.
Liang Lawrence has an incredible ability to tap into the universal struggles of 20-somethings, capturing the messy realities of love, self-discovery, and feeling burnout. Her lyrics resonate deeply, touching on the confusion and intensity that come with navigating life in your twenties. What sets her apart is the raw vulnerability she brings to her songwriting, which is at risk of feeling a little too heavy and bleak, if it weren’t for the whimsy and playful nature that shines through each track.
On stage, Lawrence doesn’t just perform; she invites the crowd into her world, creating an intimate, almost confessional space. There’s a sense of camaraderie between her and the crowd, as if they are all on this journey of growth together. The night feels like a reflection of her current success—there’s an undeniable connection with the crowd, but also a palpable sense that she’s on the verge of something even bigger.
