Exclusive: Interview with international DJ and Producer Martin Jensen

Words by Kate South

Following his 5 Billion Streams Tour, we caught up with Danish DJ and producer Martin Jesen to discuss his career, his collaboration with Strutsafe, and his upcoming “Me, Myself, Online” DJ set at Aarhus Port.

Danish DJ and producer Martin Jensen is responsible for some of the electronic music scene’s biggest hits. With over 5 billion streams and counting, he is regularly seen on the biggest stages in the world, from Tomorrowland to Wembley Stadium, while also headlining solo sets across the globe. Martin Jensen, who made his name via viral smash hit ‘Solo Dance’, also landed in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll, marking him as one of the best DJs in the world. Since then, Martin has appeared as a judge on the X Factor in his home of Denmark, the first DJ to ever do so, following up his early success with electronic and pop anthems like ‘Nobody’ with James Arthur, ‘Middle Of The Night’ with The Vamps and ‘Don’t Cry For Me’ alongside Jason Derulo. Recently, he also released the summery vocal dance-pop anthem ‘Follow Me’. The track has been receiving vast support from UK and international radio, with more new music in the pipeline.

Here at Starfreak Mag, we were lucky enough to catch up with the incredibly busy Martin Jensen ahead of his latest project. After a successful headline tour, Martin is set to partner with leading shipping organisation Mærsk for a groundbreaking new ‘Me, Myself, Online’ DJ set at the Mary Mærsk in the Aarhus Port for one of his most ambitious and unmissable performances yet. We also discussed Martin Jensen’s career to date, his collaboration with Strutsafe and what’s next for the Danish DJ.

When did you start DJing and what inspired you to pursue it as a career?

I always had an interest in dance music, and began doing this in a sort of mobile DJ format when I was in my late teens at events and parties. I’d been DJ’ing for a long time before I turned to production, but after that, my career pretty much took off on a level I never expected, and this is something I’m so happy to be able to call my career.

You have collaborated with some incredible artists, from James Arthur to The Vamps to Jason Derulo. If you could work with any artist, who would it be and why?

I’m a big pop music fan, so it would be Taylor Swift! Even to remix one of her tracks would be something I would love to do; I think she really has rewritten the pop rule book and will go down as one of the greats.

Your viral hit “Solo Dance” has amassed billions of streams and you have landed in DJ Mag’s Top 100 List, twice! Out of all your achievements, what would you say is the proudest moment of your career to date?

I am so thankful for what ‘Solo Dance’ did for me as an artist, putting me on such a known scale globally and acting as a springboard for the rest of my career. But the thing I’m proudest of is my longevity and creativity as an artist, that I have developed throughout my career. I love working with pop artists, but also creating club records and championing new artists. My ‘HYPEBEAST EP’, released earlier this year, I think, really showed that. I worked in close collaboration with a number of artists and focused on this trap-influenced sound, which also had a signature Martin Jensen house style to still make it enticing to listeners and fans across the board.

Last month you completed the 5 billion Streams Tour in Denmark. How was it getting back on the road and seeing your fans live?

I loved it, especially across my home country! I also just had an amazing Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), and playing to that audience was amazing. I’m really excited to continue on with more dates and a big Summer of festivals in 2026 – hope to see you guys there and also return to the UK soon!

Your latest single “Follow Me” is like Summer in a song. Talk me through the inspiration behind the track.

Thank you! Working with LAWRENT and having Sacha on vocals was super fun. We really blended our styles together and wanted to bring a vibe of that 2010s house nostalgia, with a mixture of emotional lyrics, but the production being upbeat that would also get fans on the dancefloor.

You have recently collaborated with Strut Safe as the first male ambassador. Why is Strut Safe important to you and what inspired the collaboration?

Yes! Strut Safe are really doing amazing things in the UK, and I just wish that more countries and communities had such a service. I know that I would feel safer, myself, or knowing that my family members or friends had such a tool to have someone at the end of the phone to ease that anxiety. Whether that is walking home from the club, walking from the train station or bus stop alone or just having a voice at the end of the line to make sure you arrive home safely, it’s been a connection I’ve been really proud to be a part of.

During the pandemic you became famous for your epic DJ sets during the ‘Me, Myself, Online’ live streams. What is it like putting on these live stream events and what inspired you to bring them back in 2025?

The ‘Me, Myself, Online’ streams felt really revolutionary, as myself and my team were some of the first to launch into the digital-live space with sets during quarantine. People around the world were feeling disconnected and uncertain, so to bring some joy to their days and invite them to experience a Martin Jensen party felt like the perfect time. We previously did locations including the National (Parken) Stadium in my home of Denmark, Billund Airport and many more, which really elevates the experience into a full audio-visual experience. We also just announced the next edition, which sees me take over the Mary Mærsk, which was previously the world’s largest shipping vessel at Aarhus Port, and is the biggest port in Denmark. We will be premiering live on YouTube on November 7th, so set your reminders!

Do you have any new music in the pipeline?

I do, but there isn’t too much I can say as of yet! I’m very proud to have signed a new deal with Spinnin’ Records earlier this year, and I’ve just been at a writing camp with the team in Amsterdam last week, so a lot of passion and creativity is flowing! The best is yet to come…

Final question: are you a Star or a Freak?

I’m a star AND  a freak – I have two sides to me, my home life with my beautiful family, and my life in the public – both make me feel like a star in their own ways, and allow me to always have fun and enjoy the everyday.

Martin Jensen’s Mærsk set will go live on the Spinnin’ Records YouTube channel on 7th November – stay tuned for one of the biggest DJ sets of 2025!
