Eden Hunter Releases Debut EP The Circus Man,  A Five-Piece Project that Delves Into The Love & Heartbreak Of Modern Showgirl

Words by Kate South

Eden Hunter is a multifaceted artist, songwriter, actor and model whose work fuses timeless pop with character-driven storytelling. With a theatrical flair and a sharp narrative voice, Hunter has become known for blending her love of the stage with a modern pop sensibility. An alum of the Brit School, Hunter enjoys a successful songwriting career, with credits including RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, Global All Stars, and UK Vs The World.

Eden’s latest release, The Circus Man, arrives as a deeply personal exploration of her career to date. The EP is a project she describes as “the pain, the passion and the promise of the modern-day showgirl.” More than a collection of songs, it is a body of work that traces her journey from wide-eyed devotion to art and performance to the complicated reality of turning that passion into a career. A talented songwriter, early in her career, Hunter found herself increasingly encouraged to help others achieve their artistic visions, resulting in her having to sideline her own. With honesty and vulnerability, she reflects on the turbulence that followed, an experience familiar to many artists, and channels it into music that feels intimate, poetic and strikingly self-aware.

At its heart, the EP is about reclaiming her narrative. It documents what she calls “the process of undoing all the manufactured narratives” that the industry thrust upon her, including the pressures to be more palatable and acceptable. Coming into her own as an artist, this EP is an act of re-rooting herself in everything she has always loved. The result is music that is bold, emotionally open and refreshingly fearless. It sounds exactly how she feels, audacious and alive, created without compromise. Having recently supported Alfreda in Manchester’s Deaf Institute, Hunter’s live vocals are not to be missed. With a soaring belt and emotive delivery, Hunter’s background in musical theatre bleeds into her music, fused with a decidedly pop sound. Her theatrical influence can be heard particularly on the final track, ‘Showgirl’. A standout single from the EP, the song showcases Hunter at her most confronting and candid, with driving electric guitars and an anthemic chorus. Proud and excited to finally share her debut EP, she invites listeners into an experience that is both cathartic and celebratory, a reintroduction on her own terms.

Exploring the inspiration behind the EP Hunter explains, “The Circus Man” EP is my acceptance of the obsession, passion and pain of being an artist trusting in the industry where everything can be romanticised, even the worst possible situations –  In a sense that’s exactly what I’ve done, hand in hand with calling out the hard truths of losing who you are off the back of the wrong person being in a position of power.

It’s playful, it’s guttural, it’s theatrical – it’s everything The Circus Man in my story ruined me for…everything I love about who I am.”
