70s-inspired Brighton rock band Creeping Jean made a Mammoth start to their Supercharger tour last week at the Craufurd Arms, celebrating the release of their latest single of the same name. Creeping Jean’s music creates a wonderful blend of vintage inspiration with a modern twist, perfect for fans of musicians from the Rolling Stones to Franz Ferdinand and bringing generations together.

The first music act of the night was Ramblin Preachers’ Ross Connor, whose voice really shone. The second support band, The Chess Pieces, really got the crowd moving with the energy of their songs, especially their take on Chris Stapleton’s Tennessee Whiskey.

The atmosphere was brought to life when Creeping Jean walked onto the stage looking like they fell straight out of a Rolling Stones cover from the 1970s. They opened their set with the energetic Ten Kisses and played several tunes from their 2024 album Business Is Dead, as well as a few singles. The highlight of the night for me was Warm & Fuzzy from Creeping Jean’s debut album When’s the Blowout?, and the crowd went wild for the band’s final encore as they made their way back onstage to close with the catchy number The Last Time, a perfect way to end the show.

Creeping Jean is definitely THE up-and-coming indie rock band to keep your eye on, playing several festivals this year, including Tramlines. I will definitely remember this cosy gig in Milton Keynes when they’re announced as headliners!
