musicStar in the Making Series #3

words by Chloe Williams

Life often likes to give us moments that are overwhelming. Where everything feels a little too much and the various problems we deal with threaten to spill over into our everyday routine. Sometimes it seems easier to respond with a sense of dread and denial, but it is crucial to continue with optimism and growth – and we know who does exactly this.

Rising singer-songwriter Avery Lynch caresses her audience with a tender voice of vulnerability and ease, writing from experience, feeling, and utter truth. Since her 2020 debut with “I Put You First (& You Did Too)”, Avery has rooted herself in the sad-girl music genre, developing comfortably into a woman who has had the opportunity to co-produce her newest EP “, Glad We Met”. Establishing a personal sense of intimacy, Lynch is taking these creative milestones with grace and professionalism; “Glad We Met” follows a storytelling nature, capturing the hearts of listeners while offering viewpoints on relatable situations. Whether you embrace music sonically or lyrically, the 9-track EP will bring you into a world of attentiveness and emotion that can be appreciated through every piano arrangement and each soft strum of the guitar. It’s almost like Lynch’s vocals are made to fit perfectly alongside the rhythm of the piano, leading the journey through heartbreak and healing, self-discovery and maturity; you can’t imagine the music any other way.

The new EP includes previously released singles “Rain”, “the boys who don’t know what they want” and “think about it”, making the release one of Lynch’s strongest yet. The songs explore themes of relationships, the ups and the downs, and the dilemmas that can be faced along the way. Both sides need consistency, and this is immediately shown through the first few songs on the EP. “Rain” shows the start of something new with someone else, exploring the feelings of past love and what it can mean to discover yourself along the way. Followed by “the boys who don’t know what they want”, a single released in January this year, describing time-fleeting moments that exist in a fast-paced society of loose ends and no commitments, despite wanting more. Each song flows off the back of each other, and a story of life and love is created, a story we are thoroughly invested in.

The title track “I’m Glad We Met” is Lynch’s favourite, and is the one that pulls the entire project together. It is clear music and the act of creation is one that comes naturally to the ‘happy girl filled with sad songs’, sitting down at the piano since the age of seven and developing ever since. Trusted collaborators have since backed Lynch and we couldn’t be more happy to stream all the music we can get our hands on.

Avery and her team are taking her new EP on tour across America’s West Coast, and it would be unfortunate to miss such a show. Catch the intimate performances in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles to feel even closer to the melodies that threaten tears to spill or sad-happy grins to rise, kicking off November 14. If you appreciate music from the likes of Lizzy McAlpine, Gracie Abrams, and Lexi Jayde; we are more than certain Avery Lynch will catch your attention, putting her own spin on music production and crafting it to be an embodiment of who she is. STARFREAK Magazine has our eyes on you Avery, you are a star in the making.
