Anna Lynch Releases “My Body,” The Second Single From Upcoming EP
Words by Chloe Williams
Anna Lynch is back to give us exactly what she promised, and we couldn’t be more ready to experience a winter fueled by indie-blues and the freedom of jazz. The second single, “My Body”, from her upcoming EP was released on 28th November. After our last interview led by Kate South here at STARFREAK Magazine, we are undoubtedly confirmed to be Lynch’s no.1 fans and will forever be convincing you to join us at the same level.
In recent years, Manchester has grown to be a creative city unlike any other, thriving with an array of opportunities and beating Birmingham to achieve the UK’s second city status. Many of our up-and-coming, next-generation artists reside in the city, including Anna Lynch: a true ray of sunshine ready to beam on her audience, igniting a sense of stardom with every musical and lyrical step forward. Her debut single, “Wake Up”, started this journey of movement and inspiration back in August, gifting listeners with a song exploring personal turmoil and the worries of everyday reality, rooted in the lesson of self-compassion. If there is one thing we want to hear more of in the music industry, it is most certainly this taste of relatability and personal discovery. We all love an artist who dives deep into everything we deem real, but what is often perceived as difficult and taboo: feelings, truths, and revelations about who we are, how we look, and our potential to accomplish all our biggest hopes and dreams, of which we harshly criticise.
Lynch may only be at the start of her journey, but she has already found a sound that resonates with her music style and production. Think Olivia Dean, Laura Marling, and the biggest inspiration of them all: the divine and the talented Amy Winehouse. With the help of her producer, Gareth Jones, “My Body” is beautifully arranged, with layer upon layer of vocals and instruments built together to create one whole body of vulnerability and expression. Elements of pop, soul and jazz create a blend that is capable of captivation, compelling an audience to reconnect with the ‘reassuring reminder to let go, breathe, and trust your body in moments of doubt’. It is the strongest track yet, pushing Lynch deeper into the industry she is wishing to break into – and this entrance will not be done silently; rather, it will be done with force and the level of understanding required. Talent radiates from Lynch, and we are certain she will come to dominate the world she is only now starting to witness firsthand.
BBC Introducing, Atwood Magazine, Karma! and Voices Radio are among the various outlets appraising Lynch from the get-go, awaiting the release of more authentic tracks strewn through with natural storytelling and attainable composure. Lynch also played her first headline show at Manchester’s Band On The Wall only recently, and we are in awe of her musical integrity and utter dedication to her art form.
To follow, music and art coincide, and Lynch understands this fact perfectly. It is always easy to tell when an individual is not as worldly as they should be, as lyrics can often be synonymous with literature and poetry. Luckily, Lynch has drawn inspiration from various art forms, with “My Body” specifically inspired by a book. As long as Lynch can appreciate the beauty of the art around her and what she is consuming, we are no doubt en route to nothing but bigger and better things. A sense of creativity in her process and the freedom that accompanies it only accentuates the idea of desired curation, and we will continue to appreciate this art as long as we can.
Now, with a series of support slots to close out the end of the year, Lynch is quickly building momentum as a new artist to watch. And with her debut EP due early next year, it’s an exciting start for the rising singer-songwriter. Anna Lynch is a star we are holding up in the sky, and STARFREAK Magazine would not be here without our collection of stars.
