On November 13, Wet Leg took the stage at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall. The band began their set at around 9:15 pm, opening with one of the most popular tracks from their new album, “catch these fists.” From the first chords, the atmosphere was electric.
They followed immediately with “Wet Dream,” their most-streamed track on Spotify, and the audience went crazy. Fans were jumping and screaming the lyrics, but the fans delivered the loudest and longest scream during “Ur Mum”, making the whole building shake.
Even the band was stunned by how loud and passionate the audience was. Frontwoman Rhian Teasdale, after just a few songs, said, “Royal Albert Hall… what the fuck,” as she looked out at the crowd. That moment summed up the entire night.
As the night went on, the lighting design became a star in its own right. Bright beams swept rapidly across the stage and audience, so intense that security handed out sunglasses to those at the barricade before the show.
The band closed their set at approximately 10:20 pm, with “mangetout” (one of my personal favourites from moisturiser), leaving the crowd on a euphoric high.
It was an iconic night with an iconic band at an iconic venue, and I feel deeply honoured to have been there to photograph it. The energy, the joy, and the sheer disbelief were unforgettable.
