Ellur Shares New Single ‘The World Is Not An Oyster’
Words by Paula Zawicka
Halifax indie sensation Ellur returns with her most heartfelt work to date, ‘The World Is Not An Oyster’, out now via cult label Dance To The Radio. The single follows a breakout year for the rising artist, who’s rapidly cementing her status as one of the most exciting young songwriters of her generation.
Written alongside Benjamin Francis Leftwich and Jack Leonard (UNKLE), the track sees Ellur channel the emotional turbulence of her early twenties into something both raw and cinematic. Drawing inspiration from early-2000s anthems by Coldplay, Radiohead, and Embrace, it blends widescreen indie production with lyrical honesty – a trademark of Ellur’s sound that has often earned her comparisons to Sam Fender.
“This is the story of a teenage girl trying to figure out why love doesn’t come easy,” Ellur shares. “When I was 15, my parents split up, and my world fell apart. Recording this song was a healing process after years of hurting from two of the most painful experiences in my life. To me, this song sounds like home.”
Already praised by Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips and championed by fellow songwriters including Antony Szmierek, Blossoms, and Jade Bird, Ellur’s introspective storytelling continues to strike a chord with audiences. Her first full UK headline tour, which included sold-out dates in London, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, and Bristol, confirmed that her appeal extends far beyond the studio.
With a growing reputation as one of Britain’s most emotionally articulate voices, Ellur’s ‘The World Is Not An Oyster’ feels like a defining moment – a soaring, honest anthem from an artist ready to take the next step.
‘The World Is Not An Oyster’ is out now on all digital platforms via Dance To The Radio.
